OARS Middle School Program

Beginning in 6th grade, boys and girls are eligible for OARS Middle School program. Here, beginning rowers learn the basics of boat handling, the rowing stroke, fitness, and teamwork, among other things. While there are racing opportunities, they are not the main focus as we develop long term athletes.

Rowers and parents alike often see quick results in both fitness and technical rowing prowess among Middle School rowers. Nonetheless, patient, expert coaching allows rowers to develop at their own speed and work into the habits that will serve them well in the years to come — not just in the boat, but in the rest of their lives as well. One thing is for sure: the sport hooks kids at this age, and hooks them good.

Our Middle School Program is extremely popular and usually fills to capacity with a waitlist.  We ask the rowers that are admitted to the program to take it seriously as there are many others who were not given the opportunity to participate.

Who is eligible for the Middle School Program?

All 6th and 7th graders as well as those 8th graders looking for less commitment than our 8th grade competitive program.

Please take a look at our Middle School Overview for all the information you will need to join us for the Spring Season
